Matting / Dull Appearance

Oct 31, 2025 | Paint Defects and Solutions

Problem Description:

The paint loses its expected gloss, appearing matte or dull.

Possible Causes:

Over-Drying or Rapid Drying: High temperature or low humidity can cause uneven spreading, resulting in a dull finish.
Insufficient Number of Coats: Thin applications may not achieve desired gloss levels.
Thinner Selection: Fast-evaporating thinners can reduce gloss.

Solutions and Precautions:

Control Application Conditions: Maintain ambient temperature between 18–24°C and humidity between 45–65%.
Increase Number of Coats: Apply multiple coats for a more uniform and glossy surface.
Ensure Even Application: Apply paint smoothly; maintain correct spray distance if using spray equipment.
Choose Appropriate Thinners: Prefer slower-evaporating thinners.
